Frequently Asked Questions
What is the difference between 2D/3D/4D Ultrasounds?
A 2D image is the traditional black and white image that most people are used to seeing. A 3D image helps us see things in a different way and the screen is typically an amber color. 4D image is seeing the 3D imaging in motion, so the 4th dimension is time.
Does this take the place of the ultrasound that my doctor has ordered and will my insurance cover it?
No. This ultrasound is elective and for entertainment purposes only. You are responsible for obtaining your prenatal care and diagnostic ultrasound through your obstetrician and should have already confirmed your due date and started your care with them prior to seeing us. We will not discuss any diagnostic information during our sessions. Therefore, your insurance will not cover our services. Please discuss this with your physician if you should have any concerns.
Is ultrasound safe for me and my baby?
Studies have been done for over 30 years that show no harm to the baby or mother. Ultrasounds use sound waves which are no form of radiation. 3D/4D Ultrasound uses the same type of technology as the traditional 2D imaging.
How far along do I need to be to determine the gender of my baby?
We can determine the gender as early as 15 weeks. If, however, your baby does not cooperate during your scan, we can schedule a no-charge 5 minute re-check, which would include one free picture. We can never guarantee the gender 100%.
Will my images be as clear as I’ve seen in the pictures of others?
Will I always get beautiful pictures? As much as we would love to always guarantee this, we cannot always guarantee that every baby will lay in the best position for the scan. The amount of amniotic fluid, maternal tissue and position of the placenta can all also be factors that can affect the images.
What kind of equipment do you use to do your 3D/4D scans?
We use a GE E8B10. This is an excellent machine for 3D/4D scanning.
What can I do to help obtain the best images possible of my baby?
You do not need a full bladder, but staying hydrated helps.
Can I bring my friends and family?
Of course you can bring who you would like to your appointment. Your family and friends are welcome. At this time, we request that masks be worn by those who are not vaccinated.
Do I need an appointment?
